Isopod Journal
As well as the website i'm gonna make my journal here as well:
I'll start new but still have the same days. So for those that want to view the whole journal view the website:
http://isopodguy.webs.com
Anywhere here goes:
Day#78-Septemeber 11th/2010- Well so far so good with composting with isopods. I have made them a flowthrough system for the colony it is very easy to make here is how i did it:
1-Take two containers and in one cut the bottom and top off of it.
2-Next tape or glue screen onto the holes.
3-Add in some bedding i love cardboard for this.
4-Add in the isopods and food. Such as veggies and or friuts.
The flowthrough system works well for these reasons:
1-Makes the system airated and smell pretty.
2-Makes harvesting the IC so much more easier.
3-So far it just works by its self. All i need to do is keep it moist and add in food and bedding when needed. Very simple. I recommend them to anyone more into composting with isopods to setup this kind of system. Its so easy to do. Once your started its only takes 5-60 minutes a day depending on if you like to look at your colony as much as i do LOL! Anyway i hope that helps someone.
Thats it for this update[which is more like a tutorial but still educational right?]

Re: Isopod Journal
I added a tiny ammount of food into the bin 2-3 days ago and already its almost prosessed enough to add more. Never leave an isopod bin empty without food unless your close to doing a harvest. Now my bin has only been up for 12 days so i'm just gonna continue to feed them and see what happens in 30-50 days down the road then i'll leave them for 1-2 weeks without food and then harvest the material on the bottom. So far so good with this flowthrough isopod system!
